Hangface adds 2nd guitar player!
2005.01.04
It is now official, Tom Espen Pedersen from Norway is joining forces with the boys.
The wheels started turning this summer, after the band had been thinking about adding a guitar player for some time.
Hangface has changed quite a bit the last two years, and the need for
two guitars became more and more apparent, especially in a live
situation.
While the band was on tour in Norway this summer, the time came to get
serious about the change, and the options weren't too many.
"The band is like a family you know? There are so many aspects to it besides the music", guitar player DJ states.
"The style of playing and songwriting has to fit of course, but
the social aspect to it is actually more important", says bass player
Hogne.
They could think of only one person who could fit all the criteria, a childhood friend by the name of Tom Espen.
Drummer Espen: "Me and Hogne went to school with Tom, so we've known
him for a long time, and we knew that it wouldn't be a problem to work
and live with him".
Espen and Hogne played with Tom in another band back home in Norway for
a long time, so they knew him well musically as well as personally. So
during the summer the guys had a brief meeting with Tom at a party, and
it soon became clear that he was interested. After some planning Tom
flew to LA to jam with the guys, and to see if this was something he
wanted to do. Needless to say, Tom enjoyed himself
Singer Bee states: "After the first 10 minutes of rehearsal it felt
like Tom had always been in the band you know? Everything just fitted
perfectly."
After a couple of weeks of practicing Hangface did three gigs with Tom,
two of them were public ones, and the last one was a closed showcase
were Tom was presented for manager John Malta, producer Eddie Kramer,
and a bunch of music industry people, and the response was clear; Tom
is in the band!
Tom is currently in Norway, waiting for the embassy to issue his visa, but he'll be joining the guys again very soon.
